Sri Lanka has started shipping corneas to Pakistan once more. Five eye corneas brought on board a SriLankan Airlines flight were turned over to Pakistani authorities on Thursday (20), according to the Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad.

Sri Lanka has started shipping corneas to Pakistan again.

Because of the lack of fluid needed for a safe corneal transfer during the Covid-19 pandemic, Sri Lanka ceased supplying eye corneas to Pakistan two and a half years ago.

Through the Eye Donation Society of Sri Lanka, which was founded in 1964 by the late Deshamannya Dr. Hudson Silva, Sri Lanka has contributed more than 88,000 corneas to the global community. Over 36,000 of those were donated to Pakistan.According to the HC, hospitals in and around the City of Lahore itself were housing over 300 patients who were waiting for corneal transplants.
