The famous Indian epic, the Ramayana, is associated with the legendary character Ravana, after whom the falls are named. Legend has it that princess Sita was abducted by Ravana, the king of Sri Lanka at the time, and that he concealed her in the caves behind this waterfall, which are now known as the Ravana Ella Cave. Back then, the cave was in the middle of a wilderness, encircled by dense forests. Additionally, it is thought that Rama’s queen took a bath in a pool filled with the water that fell from this waterfall.
