As it has always done to aid in the socioeconomic development of the nation, China will continue to assist Sri Lanka in achieving debt sustainability, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated in Beijing.

In response to a question from the media regarding the recent diplomatic talks between China and Sri Lanka in Beijing, Lin Jian made this statement during the regular press conference.

China affirms its determination to assist Lanka in achieving debt sustainability.

“What I can tell you about the 13th round of diplomatic consultations between China and Sri Lanka is that, to the best of our ability, the Chinese side has been supporting Sri Lanka’s socioeconomic development.”

The Chinese official declared, “We stand ready to continue working with relevant countries and international financial institutions to support Sri Lanka’s debt sustainability.”

The text of the press release from the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry regarding the 13th Round of Diplomatic Consultations that took place in Beijing is as follows: “The consultations were led by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Sun Weidong, and Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Aruni Wijewardane.

The two sides reviewed recent high-level visits, trade and economic expansion, debt restructuring, people-to-people exchanges, tourism, and recent advances in multilateral forums as well as bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas.

"We stand ready to continue working with relevant countries and international financial institutions to support Sri Lanka's debt sustainability."

The Foreign Secretary expressed gratitude to China for helping Sri Lanka through difficult times and, given Sri Lanka’s emphasis on economic growth and recovery, identified possible areas of future cooperation on green initiatives, modernising agriculture, renewable energy, food security, investment promotion, and enhancing trade, tourism, and people-to-people contacts.

The vice minister for China congratulated Sri Lanka on its continued success and emphasised the country’s expanding economy’s present and future potential for inward investment, people-centered sustainable growth, and increased export market expansion.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further solidifying bilateral ties based on sovereign equality and peaceful coexistence and recalled their long-standing bilateral relations based on mutual respect.
