The Supreme Court yesterday 8th June decided to consider a fundamental rights (FR) petition against Deshabandu Tennakoon’s appointment as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP). The petition was filed for July 19.

FR petitions against IGP Deshabandu Tennekoon is scheduled for review.

Regarding eight FR petitions filed by various parties, including Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, Prof. Savitri Gunasekara and former MP Hirunika Premachandra, a three-member bench announced the aforementioned decision.

 

Accusations levelled at Deshabandu include his failures regarding the violence on Easter Sunday and the incidents that occurred in May 2022 at the “Gotagogama” protest site.
