The French Ambassador to the Maldives and Sri Lanka Jean-François Pactet passed away at his official residence in Rajagiriya on the 26th of May, due to an unexpected illness. Since October 2022, he has represented France as an ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

The Ambassador was 53 years old when he passed away. He was born in 1970.A career diplomat, Pactet had previously worked for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Deputy Director of Culture and Education.Before that, he held positions at the French Permanent Representation to NATO in Brussels and the French Embassy to the United States in Washington from 2012 to 2016.In addition, he served as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ deputy spokesperson.
