In the Thalawakele region of Sri Lanka, there is a magnificent waterfall known as “St. Clair’s Waterfall,” or “St. Clair’s Falls.” It is regarded as one of the island’s widest waterfalls. This is referred to as “Little Niagara of Sri Lanka” by some. This is an iconic waterfall that truly showcases Sri Lanka’s natural beauty to the world.
Located in the Nuwara Eliya District, on the western side of Thalawakele Town is where you can find St. Clair’s waterfall. While driving the main Hatton–Nuwara Eliya road, you can stop and take in the sight of this lovely waterfall. The waterfall is roughly 71 kilometers away from Kandy and 145 kilometers away from Colombo. To get here, those coming from Kandy can first go to Nawalapitiya and then turn onto the Kotmale road. Hatton is one way for travelers who begin their journey in Colombo to get here. About 26 kilometers separate Nuwara Eliya City from St. Clair’s fall. The Thalawakele railway station is where you must disembark if you are arriving by train. This location is easy for anyone to locate.

It’s enjoyable to watch this waterfall, in fact. It’s really lovely. A distinct location is available for viewing the waterfall from the road. You are able to park your cars and marvel at the amazing image. In Sri Lanka, St. Clair Falls is ranked as the 20th highest waterfall. It consists of two droplets. The upper portion, known as “Maha Ella,” is 80 meters high. Kuda Ella is the name of the lowermost section, which is 50 meters high ultimately, the water falls into a deeper pool that is difficult to access. It’s challenging to get to the waterfall because you have to cross a “Mana” forest. Kotmale Oya is formed by St. Clair’s Waterfall. It is one of the Mahaweli River’s main branches.
